5 Local activities you can do to enjoy summer

Don’t beat the heat by staying indoors all summer! Instead, try some of these local activities you can participate in to be active and social throughout the hotter months.

  1. Sculpting PotteryTake an art class. River District Artisan’s, located in Danville’s River District, offers a variety of paint and pottery classes. Dates and classes vary, so be sure to check out their Facebook page for upcoming events or call the store at (434) 836-3272.
  2. Explore the Dan River. The recently renovated Abreu-Grogan Park in Danville offers boat rentals and access for those looking to get out on the river. You can also enjoy a stroll along the river on the Riverwalk Trail.
  3. Try a new fitness activity. Hot Asana Yoga Studio in Danville offers weekly Rise-N-Shine Yoga at Ballou Park for $6 per class. Start your day off right with stretching and relaxation. Call (434) 799-5216 for more information.
  4. Put on your dancing shoes. The Homeplace Vineyard in Chatham hosts Flip Flop Fridays the second Friday of the month through September with live music, dancing and local food vendor ChathaMooCa. Danville Parks and Recreation offers live music every third Thursday of the month through August as part of their Music on Main series.
  5. Join a crafting club. Crotchet, knit or needlework with friends! The Brosville library offers a needlework group and the Danville library offers the Crafter’s Corner where people with varying interests can meet and discuss their crafts!
