Travel back in time at the Pittsylvania County History Research Center and Library. The History Research Center and Library in Chatham offers the Veteran’s History Project, a collection of personal accounts of American war veterans, a model train exhibit, and temporary and permanent artifact exhibits. Get to know your city through the Danville Parks and Recreation Hometown Tours. The two upcoming tours focus on the historic hubs of civic life (Citizens Tour – July 9, 2016) and the history of industry and work (Industry Tour – August 6) in Danville. Enjoy the great outdoors by taking part in a fishing trip to Angler’s Park hosted by Danville Parks and Recreation. Grab a friend and your rod and reel and join Parks and Rec July 21st on the Dan River for a fun day of fishing! All skill levels are welcome and equipment will be provided. Take a tour of local flavors by visiting area wineries. Alto Vineyards and Winery is located in Hurt, Virginia and offers scenic views of the county. Enjoy a tasting Fridays or Saturdays from 12-6pm. The Homeplace Vineyard in Chatham is located on an old tobacco farm and offers tastings Monday through Saturday from 11am – 5pm or by appointment. Tomahawk Mill Vineyard and Winery is located in Chatham features a 19th century mill. Take a tour of the mill and vineyard Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 5pm. End your tour at Danville’s first (and only) brewery and winery, 2 Witches, to enjoy a glass of wine (or beer) and a board game. 2 Witches also hosts area food trucks and local musicians.
